Complete Birth’s Nicole Greig recently featured in a St. George & Sutherland Shire Leader story outlining her work as a caseload midwife at St George Hospital.
Not many people can say that their job is filled with hallmark moments.
But 2014 Johnson’s Baby Midwife of the Year for NSW, Nicole Greig, certainly can.
The mother-of-two is a caseload midwife at St George Hospital birth centre and one of two midwives with its homebirth service (the other is Christina Huber).
The homebirth service was established in 2005 and since then 171 women with low-risk pregnancies have given birth at home.
“There’s no better feeling than being at a home birth and the woman holding the baby, the toddler looking over the birth pool and the husband
“It’s such a lovely picture and it’s one you’d see in a magazine and say, ‘oh, how lovely’, but it’s something I see every day if I’m doing a home birth.”
As a caseload midwife, Ms Greig cares for women from their first prenatal appointment until two weeks after delivery.
“It’s an amazing job; that you are part of the experience and that women let you into their homes to let you be part of that experience,” she said.
Director of nursing and midwifery services Vicki Manning said St George Hospital midwives helped deliver 2460 babies last year.
Ms Greig was nominated for the award by several mums.
